Accounteer has been declared the winner of the MEST Africa Challenge 2018 taking home the grand prize of US$50,000 equity investment. The pitch event, which saw four regional winners take to the stage to present their startups was held at the Mest Africa Summit in Cape Town South Africa. The other 3 regional winners are Ghana’s Cowtribe, Kenya’s Data Integrated, and South Africa’s Swift Vee.
The Challenge was a highlight of the closing day of the MEST Africa Summit, which brought together stakeholders from Africa, Silicon Valley and Europe to network and discuss trends, challenges and opportunities affecting markets across the continent, under the theme “The Year of the African Scaleup?”

The startup whose CEO is Merijn Campsteyn while speaking about being the winner of the Lagos leg of the challenge, in an interview with Techawk said: “We’re excited to emerge winner of the Lagos round. The competition was strong, and we had to meet ourselves with the most promising Nigerian startups. It gave us a boost to know that the judges believed in our project and see potentials in what we’re doing.”
On their chances at the MEST Africa challenge, Campsteyn said: “It’s hard to assess our chances of winning the final round in Cape Town. The competition will be fierce, but we’ll give our best pitch.”
