Apple has announced that this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will kick off on 3 June. The event, which will take place at the McEnery Convention Centre in San Jose between 3-7 June, features the tagline “write code, blow minds”, which tells us absolutely nothing – nor does its accompanying image of a, er, robot’s head exploding (above).
Still, as with every WWDC, we can expect Apple to show off the next-generation versions of iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS during its keynote on the first day of the conference.
According to early rumours, iOS 13, set to debut on Apple’s so-called iPhone 11 lineup, will bring with it support for cross-platform apps, a system-wide dark mode, improvements to Apple’s CarPlay service and new iPad-specific features including the ability to tab through multiple versions of a single app like pages in a web browser.
The OS will likely also ship with Apple’s TV and news subscription services baked-in, with both services set to be unveiled on 25 March.
Of course, WWDC will also hold a number of technical sessions and hands-on labs, where developers can work with Apple engineers to build apps for the firm’s next-gen OSes.
“WWDC is Apple’s biggest event of the year. It brings thousands of the most creative and dedicated developers from around the world together with over a thousand Apple engineers to learn about our latest platform innovations and to connect as a community,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“Our developers are incredibly passionate about creating the next generation of mind-blowing experiences for the world through apps. We can’t wait to get together with them and share what’s next.”
Developers can register for WWDC now until 20 March, but doing so doesn’t mean you’ll be able to attend; Apple instead offers tickets by “random selection.”
