Avengers: Endgame earned a whopping $1.2 billion in global ticket sales in its opening first weekend. The Walt Disney Company blockbuster has become the quickest film ever to break the $1bn barrier, doing so in just five days. Endgame is the 22nd offering in the Marvel Studios superhero franchise.
It’s opening takings shattered the previous global debut record of $640m set by last year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame, which wraps up a decade-long storyline woven through previous Marvel Comics Universe films, featured an ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr. Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Bossman, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, and Brie Larsen, who reprised her role of Captain Marvel.
