Huawei, the 2nd biggest phone maker in the world, has been barred by Facebook from preinstalling its apps which include Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
Huawei smartphone users will still be able to download and update Facebook’s apps, but new devices can’t come with Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.
“We are reviewing the Commerce Department’s final rule and the more recently issued temporary general license and taking steps to ensure compliance,” a Facebook spokesperson said.
This move follows President Donald Trump signing an executive order effectively banning the Chinese company from US communications networks, based on national security concerns over the telecom’s close relationship with the Chinese government. Soon afterwards, Google cut Huawei off from future Android updates, before temporarily resuming work.
