The National ID Card has been lambasted over the years for not being efficient and fastidious with the registration of Nigerians as it may take years before getting the ID Card.
Hence, it did not come as a surprise that Nigerians on social media did not welcome the decision of the NIMC to charge N5,000 for card replacement.
National ID is nothing but an extortion. Of what benefit is it for people to be wasting 10% of their minimum wages for renewal and over 15% on replacement?
Yet they find it difficult to pay minimum wage. Why are they throwing everything all at once at us if not for extortion?

3k to renew and 5k to replace national ID card, that means our citizenship as a Nigerian expires after a period. So so it it expires that means they deport us to our real country… Welcome to Nigeria#nationalIDcard

Getting National ID in Nigeria is like applying for an American visa. I can’t forget what I went through to get just the temporary one. 🤦♀️

People also AGE, as they grow older, they change in their physical form also. It is trite that very few people look like their 5 years throwback pictures. Note that Five(5) years is the validity period for the National ID.

If ID’s cease to expire, identification and keeping tabs of citizens and immigrants for social security which is its primary purpose will never be achieved, thus an exercise in futility.
