EduBox, a Nigerian edtech startup, has emerged the winner of the Union Bank EdTech Challenge taking home 2.5 million naira cash prize.
EduBox, a product of Tedprime Hub, allows users to access thousands of educational contents (on books, videos, simulations, audio) simultaneously from several educational sites such as Wikipedia (online encyclopedia), GCF, Khan Academy, Art and Literature Sites and much more. The device makes it easy to bring online educational materials into places with limited or no internet access.
Utiva and Expo were named first and second runners up and were rewarded with 1.5 million and 1 million naira cash prizes respectively.
The top three startups (EduBox, Utiva and Expo) were shortlisted from 10 finalists that pitched their innovative edtech ideas at the just concluded edu360, Union Bank’s annual flagship education event.
On why Union Bank organised the edtech challenge and the Bank’s support for education, the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer, Lola Cardoso said, “The edTech challenge links two areas that Union Bank is passionate about – Education and Innovation, and our focus on these two areas stems from the realisation that they are crucial to driving development and sustainable impact in Nigeria.
“We are focused on collaborations and partnerships that will boost the development of education and shape a better, more sustainable future.”
The competition was organised in partnership with VHA Services, a Lagos-based professional services and coaching organisation that supports individuals and companies to set up, build and grow sustainable ventures.
Conclusively, the competition is the third edition of the annual Innovation Challenge series. Through the Centenary Innovation Challenge in 2017 and the Campus Innovation Challenge in 2018, Union Bank discovered and supported innovative ideas and solutions that solve various social and business challenges.
