Toolboksi, a Tanzanian-based online marketplace for artisans, has emerged winner in the Daikin-Samurai Incubate Africa Ideathon.
The startup beat eight others at a two-day pitch event held in Nairobi, Kenya, between December 10th and 11th, 2019.
Over 160 startups applied for the maiden Daikin-Samurai Incubate Africa Ideathon.
Toolboksi gets to work on a project fully bankrolled by the air-conditioning giant, Daikin, and the startup also stands a chance of receiving funding from Samurai Incubate pending approval from the investment committee.
Meanwhile, Marks Rate, a Kenyan crowdfunding platform for SME financing, won the special award from Daikin for its innovative project.
Samurai Incubate Africa, an early-stage VC, was scouting for its next investment through this pitch event. The VC currently boasts a portfolio that includes 16 African startups drawn from countries like South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Nigeria.
