Merge, a South African startup that connects investors with founders, has raised $100,000 from Platform Capital, a Nigeria-based VC.

Merge was founded in 2017 by Zander Matthee and Brandon Bate and it is a platform where startups, founders, and entrepreneurs looking to raise funds can find suitable investors for their businesses.

As of today, the startup operates from South Africa but it is planning to expand to Nigeria in the coming months. Merge has more than 1,000 founders, over 200 investors, and over 300 businesses that have already some form of investment.

“This investment from Platform Capital is the partnership that we have been waiting for. The synergies are unparallelled and the access to international markets will definitely put us in a stronger position going forward.

“The platform has already taken us to Silicon Valley where they exposed us to its tech ecosystem and deep network; we are now partnering with leading technology companies to accelerate our growth,” said Zander Matthee.

Ponmile Osibo, the partner at Platform Capital, said: “Democratising access to finance via technology is the next frontier for the investment space and Merge is leading the charge. We are delighted to partner with Zander and Brandon, two young, passionate, and driven entrepreneurs with a knack for problem-solving.

“We are certain that Merge will become the ‘Tinder’ of investments – matching innovative founders to willing investors.”
