ExecuJets, the airline suspended by the Federal Government for flying Naira Marley to Abuja to perform a concert has released a statement apologising for its actions.
Explaining what happened, the Chairman/CEO of ExecuJets, Dr Sam Iwuajoku, said in a statement that the Judge the flight was approved for had already flown to Abuja adding that the same flight was later assigned to fly Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works, because he is a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Unfortunately, the Babatunde Fashola (a name on the manifest) turned out to be the name of Naira Marley’s brother. The statement further referred to Naira Marley and his team as a bunch of useless people.
The statement reads in part: “So, on Saturday morning 13th June 2020, my staff called me that they have a charter flight to Abuja and that the passengers are already in the lounge.
“As a rule, the passenger manifest is always sent to me before departure. When I went through the manifest and I saw Fashola Babatunde, I thought it was the Honourable Minister of Works going to Abuja with his men, so we decided to do the flight since he is a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I didn’t know that it was a bunch of useless people.
“We are very sorry for this mistake and we promise that this would not happen again.”
Responding on Twitter to being called ‘useless’, Naira Marley said: Lool they asked for our names on the jet though and looooooooool ur pilot is a Marlian and everybody there is a Marlian too… my name is Azeez Adeshina Fashola and my lil brother’s name is Moshood Babatunde Fashola
