Platform Capital, an early investor in the fund on Sunday 4th April 2021 in Los Angeles, hosted an exclusive celebratory dinner in honour of MaC Venture’s fund close at $110 million. This is the largest first fundraised by a majority Black-led team.
MaC Venture Capital is a leading Los Angeles and San Francisco based venture capital firm focused on investing globally in technology companies that benefit from shifts in pop culture, cultural trends & behaviours.
The current fund has backed some prominent early-stage companies in Artificial Intelligence, payments, and media; such as EdgeDelta, Goodfair, Gridraster, Pipe, Ryff, StoreCash, etc. MaC Venture Capital adds significant value to its portfolio companies by supporting them with market access, strategy, government relations, marketing & branding, and a deep influencer network.
“The MaC Venture Capital team is led by the very experienced team of Marlon Nichols, Adrian Fenty, Michael Palank, and Charles King, who have a strong track record of 100+ investments across various sectors including Airspace, Blavity, Caffeine, Citizen, Fair, Faze Clan, Flexport, Gimlet, PlayVS, Ready Responders, Truebill, AI Foundation and many more.
“We would really like to thank Platform Capital for believing in us, without them believing, we would not have been able to deploy capital early to invest in some of the companies that we have in our portfolio today. We could not have gotten here without Platform Capital.” Said Marlon Nichols, Founding Managing General Partner, MaC Ventures Capital. With this new fund, the company intends to make at least 40 investments on average and has already closed 27 deals so far.
“Our partnership with MaC Venture capital underscores our shared commitment for the growth of businesses globally. As early investors in the fund, we are very pleased for MaC Venture’s great achievement. We believe that this fund close will enable the team to further expand and increase their impact.
“We are also particularly excited for their visit to the African continent along with other investors to explore more opportunities, understand the macro and regulatory framework and ultimately build partnerships between current portfolio companies and African potentials.” Said Dr. Akindele Akintoye, Chairman Platform Capital while commenting on the success of Mac Venture’s fund close at the celebratory dinner hosted at the Avra Madison Estiatorio restaurant in Beverly Hills.
