The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has ordered all broadcasting stations in Nigeria to deactivate their Twitter accounts. This was disclosed in a statement issued by NBC Director-General, Armstrong Idachaba.
Mr Idachaba said television and radio stations are advised to shut down their Twitter handles and “desist from using the social media app as a source of information gathering for News and programmes presentation especially Phone-in.”
This is coming after the federal government’s ban on the social media platform’s activities in Nigeria and also after the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice ordered the prosecution of Nigerians still using Twitter. Despite the orders, Nigerians have resulted to using VPN to access the social media app.
