BYON8, a Kenyan-based healthtech startup, has raised $1.5 million in seed capital led by People Ventures, a Danish early-stage investor.
Jellyfish (an existing investor) and T&W Holding, a new investor, also participated.
Founded in 2015 by Josef Murad and Matias, BYON8, is developing Neo health, an AI-based digital physician and medical diagnostic software that analyses information from patients into calculated diagnosis propositions.
The platform asks the user questions based on their medical history and current symptoms and then provides feedback and advice to the user. The platform can also keep track of users health information, lab reports, health care visits, and other vital information.
BYON8 is built around two main services: a free symptom checker that allows users to enter their symptoms and figure out what’s causing them, and a paid symptom checker that helps users figure out what’s causing their symptoms. The ability to book appointments with licensed doctors and communicate with them via video or built-in chat.
“Having People Ventures lead our Seed round is a great recognition of the work we have done so far and of the continued growth and momentum we are experiencing. This capital will be used to fuel our growth in emerging markets starting with Kenya,” Josef Murad, MD, CEO and Co-Founder of BYON8.
“With 4 bn people living around the world without access to basic healthcare, there is an incredible opportunity for a product like BYON8 to improve access to healthcare.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with BYON8 and support them on their mission to make healthcare a right, not a privilege,” Claus Zibrandtsen, Managing Partner at People Venture said.
