The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) , has cancelled the national admission benchmark, otherwise known as cut-off mark.
The cancelation would allow tertiary institutions to individually peg their own admission cut-off marks.
The decision was taken at the 2021 policy meeting which was held virtually, Tuesday, and presided over by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.
Speaking during the meeting, the Registrar of JAMB Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said some universities such as University of Maiduguri proposed 150, Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto proposed 140, Pan Atlantic University proposed 210, University of Lagos 200, Lagos State University190, Covenant University190, Bayero University Kano, 180.
According to the new arrangement, universities are not allowed to go below 120 while polytechnics and Colleges of Education, are not allowed to go below 100 for admission.
On the deadline for the closure of admissions, the meeting resolved to allow the education ministry to reach a decision as they could not agree on the December 31, deadline for all public institutions and January 31, 2022, for all private institutions.
Oloyede also disclosed that JAMB is adding two more subjects to the UTME exams namely Computer Studies and Physical Health Education. This brings the total numbers of subject available for candidates to sit for to 25.
