Buycoins, the Nigerian crypto exchange, is 4 years today. So far, it has achieved so much and built new products and services in the past 3 years.
The startup has gone from a website for P2P bitcoin trading to building Buycoins, Buycoins Pro, Sendcash, Sendcash Pay and NGNT.
Now, the founders of the startup feel that Buycoins as a name does not reflect its new services and products.
Hence, Timi Ajiboye, the CEO of Buycoins has announced a name change. The new name is Helicarrier.
In a blogpost, Ajiboye said: “For the past 3 years, we’ve been called Buycoins. We think it’s a great name, but recently, we’ve been feeling like it doesn’t do a good job of telegraphing all that we’ve become.”
According to Ajiboye, the mission remains the same despite the name change.
“Throughout this evolution, our mission has remained the same — we want to financially connect the African, anywhere they are in the world. We believe two things: (1) Digital currencies and their underlying technology will help usher us towards this global open financial system. (2) For crypto mass adoption to happen, people need to be able to gain utility without having to interface with any of the associated technical complexities. Most people don’t understand TCP/IP or VoIP, but yet millions of people use tools built on these protocols daily.”
Launched in 2017 by Timi Ajiboye, Now the co-founders Aderinokun and Tomiwa Lasebikan, BuyCoins allows you to “buy, sell, receive, send and store Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and USD Coin from the comfort of your mobile device via a dedicated app”. It “caters to Nigerians in Nigeria, who are interested in trading cryptocurrency”.
