Singer adds ₦50 million to take the total amount to ₦250 million
Davido, the Nigerian-American singer, who recently asked his friends to send him ₦1,000,000 each to apparently clear his Rolls Royce and celebrate his birthday, has donated the money to orphanages across Nigeria.
Davido, who received about ₦200 million made this announcement in an official statement posted on his social media handles.
He wrote: “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans, friends and the public for the generous expression of love in recent days. In my usual playful manner, I requested a few days ago that my friends and colleagues send me money in celebration of my birthday.
“The response and outcome exceeded my expectations as I received about ₦200 million in less than 2 days. I truly appreciate everyone who donated hard-earned funds and I am very thankful for your generosity.”
The celebrated singer continued: “I have always been passionate about giving back and helping people. In view of this, I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totalling ₦200 million will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation. In addition, I will be making a personal donation of ₦50 million bringing the total amount to ₦250 million.”
Davido went ahead to set up a five-person disbursement committee to distribute the funds to the selected beneficiaries. The committee is to be chaired by Titi Adebayo (Mrs.).
The responsibility of the committee Davido says are “To compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria. They will determine the number of children and their needs at each orphanage and then divide the funds accordingly. The committee will also determine the portion of money to be donated to Paroche Foundation.”
To maintain transparency, Davido adds, “The committee will make public the names of the beneficiary orphanages and how much each will receive. A list of all beneficiaries will be submitted to Wema Bank, who will then be instructed to credit each beneficiary’s account.”
Recall that few days back, Davido had taken to his Instagram and Twitter accounts to call on celebrities and his fans to send him ₦1,000,000. Some of the celebrities include socialite and business man, Obi Cubana, billionaire, Femi Otedola, MI, Don Jazzy among many others.
