The Development Executive Traineeship (DET), presented by the Realness Institute in partnership with Netflix, is now open to applicants from across Africa and the Diaspora.
The DET is aimed at professionals who are looking to be trained as story consultants – enhancing their understanding of the story development process and how to support, nurture and hold writers accountable to the story they set out to tell.
Six trainees will accompany the incubation of the six potential Netflix African Original Series, in the Episodic Lab. They will shadow and work alongside Creative Producers and Story Consultants as they run the lab and be active contributors in the writers’ rooms.
Trainees will receive a monthly stipend of 2 000 USD so that they can focus entirely on their development.
The programme is set to take place online from 1 May – 31 July 2022. With participants meeting at Farmhouse 58, in the Cradle of Humankind (South Africa), in the last week of the programme.
The purpose of this programme is to foster and expand this expertise across the continent, encourage collaboration between different African countries and to create more authentic narratives and depictions of Africa. Having more development experts in our ecosystem will hugely impact the quality of the work produced.
