StarkWare has announced the launch of a $4 million venture fund aimed at fostering blockchain innovation across Africa.

This initiative underscores StarkWare’s belief in the continent’s potential to drive global crypto adoption, particularly in regions historically underserved by traditional financial institutions.

The Africa-focused fund is led by Kheireddine Kamal, a seasoned entrepreneur and investor with extensive experience in blockchain, business development, and seed investments. Having worked with multiple startups across the continent, Kamal brings a deep understanding of Africa’s tech landscape and its opportunities.

The fund will primarily support early-stage startups at the pre-seed and seed levels, particularly those building on Starknet, StarkWare’s zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup that massively scales Ethereum. Startups can apply for grants of up to $150,000, while more advanced teams may receive investments of up to $500,000. StarkWare seeks teams that combine technical expertise with business acumen and are committed to deploying blockchain solutions on Starknet.

Kamal, a Moroccan-born entrepreneur with a deep passion for Africa’s digital economy, has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology across the continent. He sees Web3 as more than just another technological advancement—it is a gateway to self-sovereignty and financial independence for millions.

“For much of the blockchain industry, financial inclusion in Africa has been little more than a buzzword,” said Kamal. “It’s time for real action, and we’re putting our money where our mouths are.

Eli Ben-Sasson, CEO and co-founder of StarkWare, emphasized blockchain’s potential for Africa: “Blockchain presents a unique opportunity for Africa to leapfrog outdated infrastructures and democratize access to financial tools with more decentralization and transparency. Africa is an exciting mass market that will showcase what can be achieved with blockchain at scale.”

StarkWare’s new venture fund represents a significant step toward realizing the transformative power of blockchain in Africa. By supporting innovative startups and strengthening the continent’s digital ecosystem, StarkWare is laying the foundation for Africa’s blockchain-driven future.
