Drones have rapidly disrupted the delivery business. The technology is currently being used to deliver packages, food, medicines and postal mail. Zipline is one such startup.
In Africa, Zipline, a US-based instant logistics and drone delivery service is leveraging drones to make medical deliveries. It has operations in the United States, Rwanda, Ghana, Japan, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya.
In Nigeria, it has been announced that Zipline which launched in Bayelsa in 2023 has launched its distribution centre. Present at the launch Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Minister of Health and Governor Douye Diri.

About the distribution centre
The distribution centre is Zipline’s operational hub, integrating advanced warehousing, cold storage, and inventory management to enable rapid, on-demand medical deliveries. From this centre, Zipline serves hundreds of health facilities and community delivery sites within its 38,000 sq km coverage area, creating routine access in even the most remote parts of the state.
Zipline’s autonomous drones are capable of a 200 km roundtrip and operate regardless of weather or terrain, ensuring seamless, on-demand deliveries to hospitals, primary healthcare centres and drop sites within zero-dose clusters across the state.
